Beyond the Curriculum

At Bonneygrove and Millbrook Primary Federation, our wider provision is designed to secure strong outcomes in pupils’ personal development, in line with the Ofsted framework (November 2025). We ensure that all pupils benefit from a coherent, well-planned programme that goes beyond the academic curriculum and supports them to become confident, resilient, and responsible citizens.

Personal Development Entitlement

All pupils access a structured and progressive programme that develops:

  • Character – including resilience, confidence, independence, and motivation
  • Wellbeing – understanding of physical and mental health, and strategies to manage emotions
  • Relationships – respect, kindness, and positive interaction with others
  • Citizenship – understanding of their role in school, the local community, and wider society

This provision is carefully sequenced and consistently delivered across the federation.

Opportunities to Develop Talent and Interests

Pupils have access to a wide and inclusive range of opportunities to develop their interests and talents. These include:

  • A range of extra-curricular clubs, including sport, music, and creative arts
  • Opportunities for performance and participation in events
  • Curriculum enrichment through visits, visitors, and themed experiences

We actively promote high levels of participation and ensure that disadvantaged pupils and those with additional needs are fully included.

Pupil Voice and Leadership

Pupils are given meaningful opportunities to contribute to school life and influence decision-making. Through leadership roles and structured opportunities for pupil voice, pupils learn to:

  • Express their views clearly and respectfully
  • Take responsibility for aspects of school life
  • Understand democratic processes and representation

Preparation for Life in Modern Britain

We prepare pupils for life in modern Britain by ensuring they develop:

  • An understanding of fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect
  • Respect for different cultures, beliefs, and backgrounds
  • An age-appropriate understanding of equality and diversity

This is woven through the curriculum and wider school experiences.

Safeguarding, Wellbeing and Support

Pupils are taught how to keep themselves safe, including online. They know how to seek help and are confident that adults will support them. Our approach ensures that pupils feel safe, valued, and listened to.

Equality of Access and Inclusion

We ensure that all pupils, including those who are disadvantaged or have SEND, have equal access to the full range of personal development opportunities. Barriers to participation are actively identified and removed.

At Bonneygrove and Millbrook Primary Federation, teaching and learning are driven by a shared commitment to excellence, inclusion, and the success of every child. Through high-quality teaching, a rich curriculum, and strong relationships, we ensure that all pupils are equipped to succeed now and in the future.
