What is emergency first aid?

First aid is the initial, immediate help that is given to someone who suffers an injury or illness. In the case of minor injuries and illnesses, first aid may be sufficient. In more serious or life-threatening situations, first aid should be given until medical treatment is available. Correctly administered first aid can be the difference between life and death.

The aim of first aid is also known as the three Ps:

• Promote recovery.
• Prevent the situation from worsening.
• Preserve life.

What is paediatric first aid?

Paediatric first aid training teaches first aid skills that are designed to be used on children.

They can be applied to anyone under the age of 16. It’s a specialised form of first aid that is designed to be used in environments where there are children present. If you work with children or infants, first aid training would highly benefit you and might even be mandatory in some settings.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) states that at least one member of staff on your premises must be fully qualified in paediatric first aid when there are children present.

This means that places such as schools, childcare, hospitals, and nurseries will all have to have someone who is qualified in first aid. Depending on the number of staff and number of children that are there, it might even be beneficial to have more than one person who is qualified.

What is Safeguarding Level One? 

Safeguarding  Children Level 1 covers the basics and everyday duties include how to report a concern and who to. Covering Government Legislation in the UK, Guidance as well as red flags and signs of neglect to look out for and how to be able to recognise these.

What is Safeguarding Level Two? 

Safeguarding Children Level 2 training aims to help learners gain an understanding of the categories of abuse and their duties and responsibilities with regards to safeguarding children and young people. It is aimed at anyone that works with children and has a responsibility to safeguard them.

Objectives:

• To understand your duties in relation to child protection and the referral process
• To understand legislative, historical and categories of harm in relation to child protection
• To consider specific circumstances in relation to protecting and safeguarding children & young people

What is Safer Recruitment?

Safer recruitment is a set of practices to help make sure your staff and volunteers are suitable to work with children and young people. It's a vital part of creating a safe and positive environment and making a commitment to keep children safe from harm.

What is Prevent?

The Prevent duty requires all education providers ‘to help prevent the risk of people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism’. This includes safeguarding learners from extremist ideologies and radicalisation.

Schools should consider the needs of children, young people and adult learners at each stage of the safeguarding process. Providers should consider radicalisation concerns in line with their existing safeguarding processes, skills and experience.
